Truman Laverne Scott was born in Lovington, New Mexico, on May 5, 1933. He was raised on ranches in New Mexico and California, and during World War II, in defense plant locations in the mid-west. His college education was at Freed-Hardeman and Harding Colleges, Harding Graduate School and Bethany Seminary, receiving his B.A. and M.A. in Bible and Biblical Languages and a M.A. and Doctorate in Christian Counseling. His whole life has been devoted to ministry; serving as a minister and a full time elder in California,a missionary in Italy, and a ministry trainer and administrator with Sunset International Bible Institute in Texas. He is now retired from administration and serving as an Administrative Consultant in a planning and writing ministry. His most recent book publications are "The Gray Eagle", a biography of Cline Paden, and "Spiritual Living for Ministers." He is an active faculty member in Sunset’s Graduate School.

Truman and Ferne were married in November 7, 1952, after having met at the Yosemite Family Encampment as High Schoolers. They have three children: Linda, married to Randy McCord, of Medford; Stephen, married to Risa, of Los Angeles, California; and Sharon, married to Rob Cod of Sparks, Nevada. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Truman and Ferne moved to Jacksonville in 1998 while he continued to travel internationally for Sunset as the International Dean. He became an elder at West Main in 2004. His assignments as an elder at West Main include overseeing the mission work, the adult education and leadership development. His love for and belief in people is at the core of all that he does.
