| Melbert Lee Hamilton was born July 21, 1940 in Abilene, TX and raised in a preaching home. His formative years were spent in the Philippines with his missionary parents. He was educated at Pepperdine University with a Math and Religion degree and completed sufficient graduate work equivalent to a Ph.D degree. In the earlier years of his career, he taught adult education classes and in public schools both in California and Oregon. He has served as the principal and teacher in a Christian private school in California. Being multi-skilled, Mel has been a certified flight and instrument instructor and commercial pilot and has worked as a computer technician and programmer at 3M and at the Providence Hospital. He joined his son in an Internet carrier company, Computer Country, founded in 1997, and, more recently became partners in Data Center West, a computer hosting business. Though supposedly retired a second time, Mel is still fully occupied with both businesses. Mary is a bookkeeper with the family business.
The Hamilton's were married on October 15, 1965. They have raised three children at West Main; Melanie, married to Buddy Rennels, with four boys; Mark, married to Angie, with two children; and Mindy, married to Bill Witt, with four children who live in Colorado. (Angie is the daughter of our church secretary, Doris Sutherlin, and Mindy's husband is the brother of Jessie Pannell.) The Hamilton's live out beyond the Table Rock area. Mel and Mary became members at West Main in 1975. He has served as a shepherd at West Main since 1990. In his quietness, he has endeared himself to many for his deep feelings, concern for the lost and commitment to Biblical truths. |
